英名： Common Machilus ,Red machilus
說明： 紅楠又名豬腳楠，阿里山楠，南庄槙楠，為常綠喬木，株高20公尺，樹皮灰褐色，皮孔顯明。單葉互生，具葉柄，倒卵形或倒披針狀，長橢圓形，葉基銳，革質濃錄，富光澤，側脈8－10對，初對生，漸向上部為互生，排列疏，新葉暗紅色。花圓錐花序，自枝端葉腋抽出，苞片橢圓形，紅色，花被片6片，雄蕊4輪，第四輪為假雄蕊，花葯四室。漿果球形成熟時暗紫色，基部有宿存而反捲的花被片，花期1-4月。
原產地： 台灣海拔200~1800公尺之山區。分佈：中國、日本、南韓等地。
用途： 1.木材供作建築，傢俱雕刻之用。 2.樹皮製線香，作拜拜用。
